I’d really like to go to both of them, but that may be outta reach.
One is Talib Kweli.
The other is Mon Laferte.
For reference, I’m a middle-aged white dude who doesn’t speak Spanish. To be fair, I’d probably be jus t as out-of-place at a Tool concert.

I know I'll enjoy the hell out of either show, as long as I can get over being the oddball in the room.

Talib Kweli’s best song is partly in French, anyway:
go anyway.

Man, Kweli is playing three shows in Washington state this July... the weekend that I’m out of town :(
At least I’ll get to finally see Boris in September.

Nice! I’ll be going to a few shows this summer too. I’m seeing The Mountain Goats (that band I recommended to you the other night) a few times in July. Here is one of my favorites by them:

I listened to that song; I really liked it, but it was a tough listen in the moment. But I’ll definitely dig in and try out some of their other songs! Thanks for the recco!

I was worried that it might hit a little too close to home. If you decide to dive into the Mountain Goats, they are a very prolific band that has evolved from a guy recording with a boombox into a full blown band with occasional saxophone. I could go on about them for hours. The singer, John Darnielle, is great at telling stories, painting pictures so vivid that you feel like you’re there. He has also written some good novels. If you want to check out the lo-fi stuff, try All Hail West Texas. If you want sad and subdued, try Get Lonely. If you want more energetic, try Tallahassee or We Shall All Be Healed.
